Following the horrific events of the Liberian civil war, the volunteers and educators in the City of Brewerville along with the Liberian Government Education System encountered an uphill battle keeping the Ellen Mills Scarborough Kindergarten School (EMSES) operational. The school had no building of its own and the rental facility was subpar.

The land was secured in 2004 under the leadership of Executive Director Alexander Massey.
Construction site prep and the school blueprint commenced under the leadership of Executive Director Felix Wilson.
Construction commenced under the leadership of Executive Director Shadrack Smith.
