Dear Friend,
I believe it is a miracle I am alive today. Just being alive would have been enough but to have worked at a prestigious firm as Booz Allen Hamilton for over 23 years is an achievement beyond my wildest imagination! But being the person I am, a GIVER to the core, I can’t help but pay it forward. I support Relay for Life to support cancer research, I support The Children’s Hospital because of the incredible work they do for kids, I give to the Red Cross in times of disasters and the list goes on. But none of the giving I do in the United States beats the giving I do every year on Columbus Day weekend when I participate in the annual convention of the Brewerville Civic Association, a nonprofit for which I serve on the board of directors and donate money and hours of my time to support projects in my home town, Brewerville, Liberia, West Africa.
I am a survival of the Liberian Civil War. So, I know what it means to go to bed hungry; I know what it means to have no place to sleep; I know what it means to hide from bullets and bombs. I lived it! And, after obtaining an education and working in corporate America for over 25 years, I certainly know what it means to have the opportunity to go to school, obtain a degree and earn a living. This is what I work for through the Brewerville Civic Association, so that every child in Brewerville gets to experience education in a comfortable setting. And so we rally to support the completion of a first of its kind school structure to support students in Brewerville up to the elementary level.
Our goal this weekend is to raise $50,000! My goal is to raise as much as I can to contribute to our bigger goal. Will you help me in this endeavor? Will you donate a dollar, 5 dollars, 10 dollars, 100 dollars or even 1000 dollars to this effort? Thank you for having my back as I strive to make a difference in the place I call home. Know that through me you are also making a difference in the lives of children across the ocean. I pray you will find it in you to support this effort. And if you want to know about why we do what we do, please visit www.brewerville.org, send us an email or come out to 3999 University Drive, Fairfax, VA 22030 on Saturday, October 7th at 7:00 PM, where we will be celebrating our annual banquet (admission is $100 a ticket).
Thank you!!
